Are You Ready to Win with GenAI???

Executive Summary While GenAI has raised the bar of what organizations can deliver, most are still struggling to turn promise into impact, and 2026 must be the year we close the gap. Consumer GPTs proved what’s possible, yet enterprise value lags due to a range of challenges. Experiments and hackathons helped, but they won’t scale. Winning with GenAI requires a holistic, deliberate approach.  In this article we’ll explore Accelerated Innovation’s GenAI Keys to Winning Operating System, an integrated set of targeted solutions purpose built to help organizations “Win” with GenAI.

“My How Time Flies…”

It’s been roughly 3 years since ChatGPT’s meteoric launch in November 2022, and everyone’s heard the buzz about GenAI.

  • The fastest adopted technology in history…
  • Trillion-dollar market caps and planned investments…
  • AI scientists receiving $100MM+ job offers…

The hype machine is set to 11, and for good reason. GenAI has the potential to increase the value an organization can deliver across virtually every area of their business. For those of us who’ve taken Micro-Economics – the “Production Frontier” just shifted “up and to the right” for organizations around the world.

Most Organizations are Struggling to bridge the Promise / Value Gap…

In practice, GenAI’s promised benefits have proven elusive for most organizations.  MIT’s recent report on the State of Business AI in 2025 tells a stark story of companies struggling to realize bottom-line impact from their GenAI efforts.  This has been echoed in a wide range of recent publications that confirm what those of us “in the trenches” have been seeing for quite some time – GenAI has a lot of moving parts, and it’s highly complex to adopt and scale.

The bottom-line:, 2026 needs to be the year we bridge the gap between GenAI promise and GenAI impact.

Start by Understanding the Root Causes…

While there are a wide range of challenges to adopting and scaling GenAI, I’d like to focus on the “Top 5” my organization sees on a regular basis:

  1. Technical Limitations There are aspects of the GenAI tech stack, that for lack of a better description, are still a little “janky”.  MIT’s analysis pointed to the lack of memory and true learning capabilities in current state LLMs.  You can also point to Semantic Search at scale, current state Agentic orchestration, and the cost of integrating LLM, ML, and traditional AI solutions.  The industry is rapidly solving most of these challenges, and technical gaps are rapidly diminishing, but they’re still a very real impediment to solving complex business use cases.
  2. Organizational Capability Gaps This is the challenge that we run into every day…  If you struggle with foundational data quality, you’re really going to struggle with GenAI.  If your business processes require significant manual intervention and tribal knowledge, you’re going to struggle to scale Agents.  If you operate in a complex, multi / hybrid-cloud environment with a Rube Goldberg technical architecture, you’ve got a long road ahead of you.  The same holds true on the non-technical side…  If you struggle to execute complex change, in an aligned way, your path to GenAI success is likely going to be a bumpy one.  We’ll dedicate a separate article to explore common Organizational Capability Gaps facing most organizations, as it warrants a closer look.
  3. Expertise Gaps Few organizations have a deep AI Engineering “bench”.  While everyone accepts that to be true, the journey to becoming a “full-stack” AI Engineer is far steeper than most appreciate.  Traditional software engineers need to think and act more like Data Scientists, while Data Scientists need to master enterprise application development skills.  Neither path is easy, and in our experience, many folks struggle to make the journey at all.  Even in the best-case scenario, enabling full-stack AI Engineers is typically a 12 – 18 month journey, which means organizations need to start now…
  4. Most Organizations are “Flying Blind” across their GenAI Efforts High maturity technical organizations wouldn’t promote applications without detailed telemetry and diagnostics.  Unfortunately, most GenAI developers today have a fairly “black box” relationship with their solutions and iteratively tune them through a largely “trial and error” series of experiments.  This becomes even more problematic when production solutions begin performing poorly, as your customers are often the first to notice.  Not good…  Adopting Evaluation Driven Development (EDD) and detailed E2E diagnostics is a game changer and can significantly increase solution delivery velocity and confidence.  Most organizations are just beginning to explore EDD, though, and would significantly benefit from accelerating their adoption efforts.
  5. Random Acts of GenAI” The last, but by no means least important challenge we’ll explore is the lack of a holistic approach to adopting and scaling GenAI.  The majority of organizations we engage with have taken a “bottoms-up” approach to adopting GenAI, led by Hackathons and siloed PoCs.  While this was a great place to start when we lacked proven adoption and scaling “blueprints”, it’s a recipe for frustration and limited impact today.  Instead, organizations need a holistic and integrated approach to delivering clear GenAI value on a regular basis (think every 30 days or less), while closing underlying capability gaps.

5 Things Every Organization Needs to “Win” with GenAI

  • A Clear Mental Model of What’s Needed to Scale GenAI When it comes to Business Transformation, I’m a firm believer that “If You Can’t See It, You Can’t Scale It…”.  Having a clear understanding of what needs to be solved for and what “Good Looks Like” is a pre-requisite for successfully transforming a business and embedding new capabilities.
  • A Clear Understanding of Where You’re Ready, Where You’re Not, and What You Need to Do About It… With complex change, it’s critical to understand where you’re ready to move at pace, and where you need to address foundational capability gaps before scaling.  That’s particularly true of GenAI, which relies on a wider range of organizational capabilities than any other technology we’ve ever seen.
  • A Way to Deliver Clear GenAI Value, While You’re Closing Key Capability Gaps The realities of business don’t pause for you to re-tool for GenAI… You still need to deliver in-year (and preferably in month) results across your GenAI efforts, while addressing foundational needs.  To do so, you’ll need to deliver frequent, highly visible value, while you architect for scale.
  • A Way to Embed GenAI into Your Organization’s Core Ways of Working GenAI adoption can’t be a project, it needs to be a business model evolution… You need to embed GenAI Data Readiness capabilities across your business, your team members need to approach GenAI-enabled automation as a core part of accelerating value across the business, and Secure & Responsible AI practices need to become reflexive.  To do so, you’ll need to introduce, enable, and thoroughly operationalize GenAI across your business.
  • Integrated Insights to Know What’s Working, What’s Not, and What’s Next… Organizations need to stop “Flying Blind” across their GenAI efforts. Business Insights have traditionally been treated as a “nice to have” as the data and business process maturity required to produce them is a lot of work.  As we move to semi-autonomous or autonomous GenAI solutions that interact with directly our customers and team members, detailed diagnostics and actionable insights move from discretionary to non-negotiable.
